Good Goddess

My fellow Bollywood fanatic, the lovely userinfomalasita will want to hear the news that I read in the Toronto Sun today.

Yes, it’s true, Tina Turner is going to play an Indian deity in the upcoming Ismail Merchant film ‘The Goddess’.

“I think Ismail chose me because of my shakti,” said Turner, who is a Buddhist. (I will tastefully refrain from making any inappropriate “private dancer” jokes here, for fear of offending Siva)

My question – which Goddess is she playing??? Lakshmi (because she is just SO money)? Parvathi as Durga? Parvathi as Kali? I NEED MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS.

Holy crap! That’s AWESOME! And vaguely disturbing.

I actually think Shiva would laugh at “private dancer” jokes, but that’s my justification since I spend quite a LOT of time laughing over his giant penis statues.

I could definitely picture Tina Turner as a Durga figure, the mother goddess, the grand diva of them all.

Thanks for the heads-up on the news. Ismail Merchant is an interesting director, so it should be neat to see how he blends Tina with Hindu mythology.
