On Monday, roommate K-Jo and I are joining the Etobicoke Quilters Guild<\/a> – oldest quilt guild in Ontario, so they claim. I feel as though we are carrying on familial traditions, since both K-Jo’s mom and JVL’s mom used to be members. There is also a 30% off sale Sept. 23-30th at the Textile Museum<\/a>, so you *know* I am going to pay a little visit to their gift shop in the hopes of acquiring one of the Dover ‘Japanese Crest’<\/a> books I’ve been coveting, and a pair of Kaffe Fassett boxer shorts for JVL. Was looking, but they don’t seem to have any of the books on my wish-list in stock: Kaleidoscope Quilts<\/a>, Snowflakes & Quilts<\/a>, and Mariner’s Compass: New Directions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Have been reading ‘Hearts and Hands’<\/a>, loaned to me by Uli, and it’s really fascinating. There are some beautiful quilts in there, and I’m enthralled by the ones that illustrate political protests, fabric covered in signatures for petitions, embroidered scenes of women speaking to crowds, etc. And I learned that the circular saw was first invented by a woman! <\/p>\n

I am now actively looking for employment outside of the OPS. There are two positions at U of T that I think I will put in for, but one of them closes tomorrow and my cover letter and resume are going to need some serious revamping. A good project for this evening, while JVL and Dan are out buying new taps to replace the severly busted ones in the laundry room and basement shower. <\/p>\n
