Just had a brief meeting with my most favourite and dearly beloved Old English professor, who extended my deadline on the paper to August 2nd, so I have next week to wrap it up. Justin got his new job this morning: he is now a “Wireless Specialist” at Best Buy, and I am happy to report he will be earning more than $10\/hr, although he is no longer allowed to wear Nike’s and graphic-tees to work. It’s all uniforms and dress shoes. Still, at a new company? Nowhere to go but up.<\/p>\n
And I am getting more comfy with the new coworkers, including some amusing discussion today of early 80s musical tastes, which I was pleased to hear included ‘Wild Thing’ by Tone Loc, and ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’ by D.J. Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince in my one nearby female coworker. I waxed poetic about the excellent line-up on ‘Rap Traxx 4’, my first cassette purchase (followed shortly thereafter by ‘Sex Packets’ by the Digital Underground, ‘Forever Your Girl’ by Paula Abdul, ‘Faith’ by George Michael, and ‘Solitudes’). <\/p>\n
There was one small scrap with my manager about whether or not one should use parentheses or a dash to encompass the 416 area code on news releases: for the extremely bored and curious out there, I argued on the side of dashes for Toronto, citing that parentheses were only used to denote an area code that may or may not be required, based on one’s geographic location when dialing (ie. if in Ottawa, a “613” is NOT needed, but if dialing Ottawa from Toronto, then it is – thus, parentheses). Since Toronto expanded into two area codes, it is now necessary to use the 416 everywhere, even in Toronto itself, in order to connect to whomever you wish to speak to.
