Mysteriously Exhausted After 4-day Weekend

Too tired to type a proper post, but if I leave it another day things are going to get lost from the weekend, which would be a pity. Am fully moved into new condo, but planning on spending Reading Week at home in Weston.

Instead, to preserve snippets that may jog my memory later, here is a mishmash of the 11th-14th.

Tried Cinnabon popcorn – interesting, but not as good as sweet. Bought JVL a Japanese buckwheat pillow for V-day. He got me a PS2 game, ‘Katamori Damaci’, which is incredible. Mum bought me loads of wonderful things for the apartment, like a toaster oven, shower curtain, ice cream scoop and light bulbs.
Ikea hell with the Malm bedframe, bed is sooo high, too firm, bedside table not done yet. May have to remove supporting metal beam and sit boxspring on floor to make mattress low enough for over-bed matching Malm birch lap table. Christ.

Went shopping at Crossroads with and this weekend – much fun had by all. JVL bought TV for apartment, which looks excellent (buy Prima brand!) and DVD remote for PS2, also awesome. Made trips to M&M Meats, Bulk Barn, Future Shop. Lots of awesome. JVL installed dimmer switch in bathroom, door stopper, and fire alarm. So proud!

Not awesome was lack of meeting social commitments. Missed Serpa’s Saturday Sprinr Roll luncheon. Dammit. Also missed huge surprise birthday bash for Rob and Dallas due to post-bed moving exhaustion. Did not drink any champagne. Do have serious crick in neck. Temporarily lost mother this morning due to broken telephone in her apartment, found her circa 2pm as panic was beginning to seriously strike thanks to landlady. Justin off work today, won’t be able to join him at home until later due to work that built up during my two days off.

Must. Read. More. Schoolwork is becoming increasingly oppressive. Need to finish 800 page ‘Ring and the Book’ by Browning asap, also last 100 pages of ‘Brideshead Revisited’ by Waugh, and all of ‘Gentlemen and Officers’, also Waugh. Might want to go back and take another shot at ‘Aurora Leigh’, which I abandoned in despair last week. Might want to take some notes. Might want to DEVELOP SOME THESES. Christ.

Reading Week Cometh

Wow! Reading week already! Next week I have no class. Not that I ever had class, but next week I will be positively without elegance or refinement. Nor will I be required to show up on campus Tuesday and Wednesday night to listen to professors and grad students wax poetic about Waugh or Browning.

FYI, the paint tray was waiting for me in the middle of the living room floor this morning. So all dealings above board, there. Didn’t get a chance to see A. since JVL and I got home at around midnight due to me catching dinner downtown with classmates Kai, Steve and Julie from my Narrative Poetry course.

The wings at Mullins’ Pub on Bay Street, by the way, are DELICIOUS and ADDICTIVE. Mmm… saucy. Also? Mark “Marky-Mark” Wahlberg has been spotted on several occasions, bartending at ‘Sage’, the restaurant next door.

On the way home, Justin was playing the GBA game I bought him for Christmas, WarioWare Inc.: Micro Mega Games, and I totally dig it. Partly because it contains a “hidden” game called Dr. Wario which is a GBA adaptation of my all-time favorite videogame, Dr. Mario for SuperNintendo. I think it will be the subject of my next GameRankings review.

Thanks to everyone for their AWESOME response and suggestions for new bed #2, especially for his really excellent and informative link! Working with a restricted budget limited my options somewhat, and I admit I was leaning towards Ikea’s “Sultan” mattress line, since they’ve got it on sale for an appealing 25% discount all month starting tomorrow. In the end, my mother interceded, and ended my hemming and hawing and number-crunching and dilly-dallying and just went to Sears and bought me a bed. Because it was on CRAZY sale (less than the website advertised clearance price), and she’s CRAZY Scottish. Thanks, Mom! Woot, here it is:

SEARS-O-PEDIC® ‘2531SL’ Wellness Series, Chiropractic®, plush pillow-top sleep set
Queen size 60″ x 80″ mattress with 640 coils (Dave’s article said to look for a minimum of 375 in a queen, and 450 in a king, so this puppy should be COMFY!) and matching box spring. The mattress has 4 comfort layers, a 20 oz hollowfibre quilted to 3/4″ supersoft foam superlastic continuous coil for even weight distribution, modular grid foundation, and patented edge supports (whatever the hell that means).

I have no idea whether the “ticking” (the outermost layer of the mattress) is vinyl (cheap), polyester (mid-range) or a cotton-polyester blend (top range). Also don’t know whether or not the box springs has coils in addition to wood or steel bars (I’m guessing not). And we don’t yet have a frame with a centre support; that will have to come later (Ikea?). But I have been assured that there’s a warranty, and it should cover at least ten years. Will probably need new sheets, probably deep-pocket corner again $$$ 🙁 So, it should be another seven years before I have to do this again. Let’s hope I’m still on LiveJournal in 2012.

Today’s least-favorite piece of corporate speak overheard in the office?
“Looks like we’re dealing with a moving target here!” *vomits profusely*
