Well, it’s still hectic here, and I haven’t even BEGUN the major speech that is due in draft to the MO tomorrow. I have NO information about the event to go on. Nada. Zilch. And this is my first speech for the minister, and it’s long, and damn it I want it to be great!
*weeps*
*barely contains her rage at inept organizers*
I also have approvals and many letters of greeting to worry about.
But on the other hand, I had a really lovely weekend in the company of JVL, wherein we were content and domestic and did a little cleaning, and a lot of sleeping, and it was nice and I am thankful.
One nice story I read today in the news was that York University campus has an apple tree grafted with cuttings from Newton’s original tree where he conceived of the existence of gravity. And it just made its first new apple.

Can they really justify claiming that these third or fourth generation cuttings came from a long dead tree? I guess so, but the article makes it sounds like the cuttings are first generation…
Anyway, the story about Newton’s apple tree is a funny thing. For some reason, he never mentioned it to anyone until 50 years after he described his principle of universal gravitation.
